Make happy holidays memories in the kitchen

We love family holidays as much as we love cooking, so when we get the chance to put the two together it makes us very happy! A family holiday is all about making precious memories and so is time spent in the kitchen. Both allow you to have quality time together, catch up on day-to-day life and have fun! We have picked out some of our simplest recipes from our website and as long as you have a mixing bowl and spoon you should be able to make them away from home! Aprons on, let’s cook!

Brilliant Banana Bread

If you’re going to be heading off on picnics during your holiday then you’ll need some delicious things to take with you. Set your little ones the task of baking this homemade banana bread or do it together as a joint activity. We have even created a lovely staycation hamper to make this super easy for you. It includes a banana bread recipe kit so you can take all the dry ingredients with you and it comes with a mini apron, an activity booklet and our cookbook!

Homemade Jam

If you are holidaying in the UK this summer then why not investigate whether there is a pick-your-own farm nearby that you can visit? It’s a lovely activity for children and there is something wonderful about picking seasonal fruit right on your doorstep. If it doesn’t all get eaten before you’re back at your accommodation then try making this delicious homemade jam. It’s free from refined sugar so you can happily let your children slather it on toast, scones and pancakes for the rest of your holiday!

Homemade ‘snickers

These chocolate bars taste just like the real thing and will give you some serious brownie points when it comes to allowing the kids to have a sweet treat. With nuts to bash with a rolling pin, dates to fill with nut butter and homemade chocolate to try, there are a few fun steps and new skills to learn as you go.

Sweetcorn fritters

These fritters make a lovely lunch accompanied with a fresh salad and a poached egg, or take them out for the day as part of a picnic. With grating, chopping and mixing to be done, it will keep your children busy whilst teaching them how to make a really tasty, healthy lunch that can be enjoyed at home as well as while you’re away on your holidays.

5 ingredient choc chip cookies

Holidays are a time to kick back and relax so if you want something sweet to dunk in a cuppa that you can also give to your children without worrying about their refined sugar intake, these biscuits are perfect. They’re fun to make for little hands as they mash the bananas and roll the dough into balls and they require very little kitchen equipment.

Frozen Yoghurt Bark

To us, holidays and ice creams go hand-in-hand. But if you’re after a cooling treat for the children to nibble on that isn’t so sugary this is a great alternative, and the best bit – it’s really fun to make. Little hands will love creating a fun pattern with their choice of toppings – you could challenge then to make a rainbow or a face!
